A brief history of the organs at St. Paul's Church

1837 The congregation's first building is consecrated on July 28th. There is an organ in the east end gallery. The organ was loaned by a Mr. Gunn, whose son was organist at Christ Church, Poughkeepsie, at the time.
c.1840 The first parish-owned organ is installed by builders Holbrook & Ware. The first organist is Miss Susan Hatch, who served until 1864.
1845 A new organ (builder unidentified) is installed on March 15th. A Master Brower is engaged to pump it.
1873 The congregation's present building is consecrated on September 11th.
c.1878 Choirmaster/vestryman Edward W. Valentine announces he has raised money to install a new organ.
1891 Renowned Poughkeepsie native Charles Gilbert Spross (1874-1962) is engaged as organist and serves for eight years.
1892 The building is enlarged with a "south transept," where the organ now stands.
1903 Choir stalls are donated by Mrs. Caroline E. Wheaton and her daughter Mrs. Marion Stuart.
1907 A new organ is given by Mr. & Mrs. Edgar B. Taylor in memory of their daughter.
1934 Rebuilding of the organ is completed by the Wicks Organ Company, utilizing many components of the 1907 instrument.
1961 The organ is reconditioned in memory of Charles A. Paskey.
2018 The organ is repaired, renovated and expanded by Rosenberry and Myers Organbuilders, thanks to the generosity of Robert F. Dorum and his mother Beatrice Ruhle.
